We all know the sinking feeling of flushing the toilet and watching the water begin to creep up too far and then not drain out as usual. Yes, I'm talking about the horrible problem of a clogged toilet.
?
This happened to me not too long ago at my New York City apartment. My toilet had some mysterious back up that did not respond to any of the usual?techniques. I tried pouring boiling water into the drain, I used?Drano, but nothing would work.
?
Being a little strapped for cash at the time, calling in a?Brooklyn Plumber?was not an options. So I had to take matters into my own hands.
?
After a quick Google search for solutions I discovered that wire hangers?actually?make a decent?DIY snake for toilet drains.?With nothing to loose I decided to give it a shot.
?
Using an unravelled old hanger from the dry cleaner, I jammed it as far as it would go into the depths of the toilet. Amazingly, after?rooting?around?for a few minutes the clog cleared and the toilet was back to normal operation.?
?
While nothing beats the tools and knowledge of a professional, it's good to know that in a pinch, everyday items can save the day.
