Stocks are mixed in early trading today as investors remain cautious ahead of Federal Reserve?s monetary policy meeting. The two-day meeting starts today. Investors are hoping that the Fed will hint at further monetary easing measures, when it releases its policy statement on Wednesday.
At last check, the Dow Jones was trading 0.22% lower at 13,044.85, the S&P 500 was trading 0.11% lower at 1,383.59, and the Nasdaq was trading 0.04% higher at 2,946.73.
Financials have been the worst performers in the S&P 500 in early trading today. At last check, the sector was down 0.43%. Consumer Non-Cyclical sector has also fallen sharply today. At last check, the sector was trading 0.37% lower. Basic Materials sector is currently trading 0.17% lower. Technology sector has been the best performer in the S&P 500 in early trading today. At last check, the sector was down 0.42%. Healthcare sector is currently trading 0.21% higher.
Among the major gainers and losers in early trading today are Cirrus Logic Inc. (NASDAQ: CRUS), which is currently trading 20.66% higher at $36.01, OCZ Technology Group Inc. (NASDAQ: OCZ), which is currently trading 11.32% lower at $5.64, Pfizer Inc. (NYSE: PFE), which is currently trading 1.52% higher at $24.07, UBS AG (NYSE: UBS), which is currently trading 5.42% lower at $10.46, Yahoo! Inc. (NASDAQ: YHOO), which is currently trading 0.13% lower at $15.96, Seagate Technology Plc (NASDAQ: STX), which is currently trading 5.39% lower at $28.79, and Apple Inc.(NASDAQ: AAPL), which is currently trading 1.84% higher at $605.98.
European markets are mostly lower in trading today as investors remain on the sidelines ahead of European Central Bank?s meeting later this week. At last check, the FTSE 100 Index in London was down 0.42%, and the CAC 40 Index in Paris was down 0.61%. Asian markets ended mostly higher earlier today, with the Nikkei 225 Index in Japan closing 0.69% higher.
