New iPad 2 units boasting significant battery life improvement thanks to 32nm chip
Last month we had learned that some iPad 2 units were being loaded with a new 32 nanometer version of the Apple A5 process, and as you might expect, testing results show that it is providing a significant increase in battery life.
Latest SwiftKey beta brings back the comma, promotes voice-to-text
SwiftKey, recipients of the prestigious 2011 Android Central Editor's Pick for third-party keyboard, today unleashed a new beta version of the SwiftKey 3 keyboard that, ahem, fixes a few things in the UI department. Most notably, the comma key has resurfaced, with the voice-to-text microphone as its secondar function, so we're not going to complain too much.
Also of note in this beta update:
- Improved the UI: there is now a dedicated comma key, and the <123> key is now in the bottom-left corner.
- Refined the Smart Punctuation pop-up.
- Reintroduced the Long-press duration setting.
- Improved Smart Space functionality.
- Further reduced lag on some devices.
- Fixed a number of bugs, including the missing decimal point in the numpad and the "What's New" dialog popping up all the time.
In addition to being the 2011 Android Central Editor's Pick for third-party keyboards, SwiftKey also won a Webby this week, which is pretty close in prestige. (Note to Android Central editors: Give away gongs.)

Is Justin Bieber's 'Boyfriend' Video An Homage To 'NYSNC?
Addressing similarities to 'NYSNC 's 'Girlfriend' clip, Bieber tells MTV News he's 'definitely' been influenced by Justin Timberlake.

<P>It's easy to compare <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/bieber_justin/artist.jhtml">Justin Bieber</a>'s <a href="/news/articles/1684446/justin-bieber-boyfriend-video.jhtml">"Boyfriend" video,</a> which premiered Thursday on MTV, to 'NSYNC's "Girlfriend" clip from a decade earlier.</P><P>The concepts are quite similar: Both videos depict laid-back parking-lot parties that go from sun-drenched afternoons to moonlit evenings, filled with fancy cars, pretty girls and hip-hop-influenced dance breaks.</P><P></p><div class="player-placeholder right" title="Justin Bieber Wanted 'Boyfriend' Video To Be 'Mature'" id="vid:765691" width="415" height="255"></div><p></P><P>Back in 2001, <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/n_sync/artist.jhtml">'NSYNC</a> enlisted director Marc Klasfeld for their game-changing <a href="http://www.mtv.com/videos/nsync/14441/girlfriend.jhtml#artist=500956">"Girlfriend" clip</a> that helped launch them ahead in their career from tweeny idols to full-grown men. Now, as Bieber hopes to make the same leap into <a href="/news/articles/1682090/justin-bieber-justin-timberlake-maturity.jhtml">manhood</a>, he said that despite having tons of respect for Justin Timberlake, he didn't realize there were similarities between his Director X-directed video and the boy band's clip.</P><P>After the <a href="/news/articles/1684454/justin-bieber-boyfriend-mature-video.jhtml">"MTV First" premiere of "Boyfriend,"</a> MTV News' Sway Calloway asked Bieber whether he had seen the "Girlfriend" video: "I haven't seen it," he said. But, he admitted he's "definitely" been influenced by Timberlake. "He was young, and he did it, and he was really amazing and had such amazing music," Bieber shared. "I can't say that I would be upset when someone compares me to him."</P><P>But, this Justin notes that while there might be some similarities to that other Justin, he's hoping to put his own stamp on the music industry, adding, "I just feel like my music is going a completely different route, but ... hats go off to him."</P><P>As for the more grown-up version of Bieber fans are getting to glimpse in the clip, he shared that much like his Beliebers he's growing up and not afraid to express that. Robert Pattinson is on a "Mission: Blacklist" in his new thriller. The heartthrob is set to star in the big-screen adaptation of the Eric Maddox book that tells the story of the man who played a vital role in the campaign to capture Saddam Hussein.
The film is being adapted by "Band of Brothers" writer/producer Erik Jendresen from Maddox's book "Mission: Black List #1: The Inside Story of the Search for Saddam Hussein — As Told by the Soldier Who Masterminded His Capture," according to The Hollywood Reporter. Davin Seay co-wrote the book with Maddox, who was the military interrogator that played a key role in the 2003 capture of the Iraqi leader.
The film will be directed by Jean-Stephane Sauvaire and is expected to get shopped around at the Cannes Film Festival this month. Pattinson will be there to promote his David Cronenberg film, "Cosmopolis."
"This movie is a gripping, edge-of-your-seat thriller," producer Ross M. Dinerstein said in a statement about the film, according to The Baltimore Sun. "I have been inspired by Robert and Jean-Stephane's dedication to tell this story in the most authentic way possible."
"Mission: Blacklist" is the latest edgy, unexpected film that Pattinson has added to his post-"Twilight" résumé, which includes Cronenberg's trippy "Cosmopolis" and the sexy costume drama "Bel Ami." Pattinson's final "Twilight" film, "Breaking Dawn - Part 2," is set for release in November.
While "Mission" is still in development, Pattinson recently returned to the "Twilight Saga" set to film reshoots for "Breaking Dawn."

Buying an iPad 2? Here's the rarer, more efficient specimen you need to (somehow) track down
Not all iPads are made equal, even if they're all packaged and branded identically. There's a major new mutation within the 2nd generation tablet and it brings significantly better battery life. Specifically, the fourth and latest production model of the iPad 2 (known as iPad2,4) has not only a lower price tag ($399) but also a new 32nm processor, which is significantly smaller and more efficient than those in previous iPad 2s (which had 45nm chips and an older transistor design). According to AnandTech, this results in an overall 16 percent increase in battery life during web browsing and as much as a 30 percent boost when playing games. Obviously that's worth having, but how can you tell if a boxed-up iPad 2 has the new processor before taking it to the checkout? Here's the downer: you can't. Until retailers' inventories naturally flood with the updated type, the only way to tell is by switching the slate on and running a utility like GeekBench -- and perhaps there'll be circumstances where you can give that a go on the shop floor. Alternatively, if third-party sellers discover that their stock is the iPad2,4, they could pull off a Darwinian win-win by marketing that fact to buyers.
