GLAAD Blasts Kirk Cameron for Calling Homosexuality "Unnatural" and "Destructive" (omg!)

Kirk Cameron is in hot water after the former Growing Pains star called homosexuality "unnatural" and "destructive" on Piers Morgan Tonight.

"It's unnatural," Cameron said on the show Friday. "I think that it's - it's detrimental, and ultimately destructive to so many of the foundations of civilization."

Piers Morgan openly disagreed with Cameron, claiming that if one of his sons came out, he would say, "'that's great son, as long as you're happy.'"

Since becoming a born-again Christian at the age of 17, Cameron has become well-known for his work spreading his Christian evangelist beliefs. On Saturday, the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation fired back at Cameron.

"In this interview, Kirk Cameron sounds even more dated than his 1980s TV character," GLAAD's senior director of programs, Herndon Graddick said in a statement. "Cameron is out of step with a growing majority of Americans, particularly people of faith who believe that their gay and lesbian brothers and sisters should be loved and accepted based on their character and not condemned because of their sexual orientation."

Cameron, 41, ?went on to blast marriage equality in the same interview. "Marriage is almost as old as dirt, and it was defined in the garden between Adam and Eve," he said. No, I don't."

To that, Graddick responded: "With an increasing number of states recognizing marriage equality, Americans are seeing that marriage is about committed couples who want to make a lifelong promise to take care of and be responsible for each other and that gay and lesbian couples need equal security and legal protection. That's not 'redefining' anything."

Reaction to Poetry reading on March 3rd, ?2012

I came to a poetry reading earlier this year and fell asleep because I was so relaxed during it and I have to say, it?s really good awake too. ?It is interesting to look back and reflect on listening the poems read by their author and comparing it to my first encounter with Thursday poems.
Of the poems read on March 3rd, the ones that caught my ear most were those read by the author?s themselves. ?One poem told of shining a light on the side of a mountain in hopes to see the glowing green eyes of a mountain lion said to live on the same mountain as his families cabin in the Rocky?s. ?The author spoke with a sense of longing to see the mighty beast in action, and before reading the poem he confessed that he still shines the light in hopes to see one every time he goes there. ?I think I liked this so much because it was so easy to relate to the author and you were invited into the story to be apart of the family as they talked with ?the smell of the rusting tractor? in the background.
The other poem I found to be captivating told of a man digging fence posts into cracking and unforgiving dirt and clay. ?The author himself did not appear to be one for physical labor, he was tall and lanky, but it served him will in contrasting his own abilities with a seasoned fence post digger. ?An image of the seasoned fence post digger swinging his tools were portrayed as being one fluid movement with no tools, just a man?s extension of his arm as he worked with much less labor during his turns of digging fence posts than the author faced during his.
It struck me that I liked these because of how they were presented; the poems were read by their authors. ?This made all of the difference for me, because just as you need subtitles to understand a foreign film, an author has to translate their work for the full effect and purpose to be met. ??The first Author took very deliberate and slow pauses and used inflections to give readers a sense of his desire. ?The second author spoke more plainly but his tone in speaking matched his scientifically inclined style of writing and thought process. ?ultimately, I think that reading your own works allows you to just be a more efficient and effective reader, because authoring a work gives you authority over it to present the piece or change it into something else entirely.

CSN: Wilson bringing typical spunk to SF lanes

One thing I completely respect about Brian Wilson is that, when he?s committed to something, he does it with 150 percent effort and 200 percent intensity. That goes for pitching, beard growing, charitable contributions, late night talk show appearances, and now...his business ventures.

Wilson is part owner of a new Lucky Strike Bowling alley, which is opening up next week across from AT&T Park. If you?ve never been to one, I can tell you from personal experience they can be pretty fun. It?s not your typical stale-beer-frozen-french-fry-and-used-bowling-shoe-smelling establishment. Yes, there?s bowling. But it?s much more about the experience than anything else. There?s usually good food and a fun bar scene that will be perfect for the ballpark crowd.

Being the foodie I am, I just had to check out the menu. It looks like they will have a little something for everyone, and I?ll be anxious to try it out.

"I know the bar food is going to be insanely delicious," Wilson told me.

The menu offers a variety of crispy tacos, sushi, and sliders (including ones with lobster!). There will be Belgian fries with five choices for dipping sauce. Sides and appetizers include gluten-free macaroni and cheese, ribs, wings and deviled eggs. For dessert, they are sourcing locally with Straus Family organic soft serve and locally baked L?artisan macaroons.

According to Wilson, this one will be unique from other Lucky Strikes, complete with a Big Lebowski theme and lots of San Francisco touches. Instead of Lane 12, it will be Lane 38, after the Giants? closer.

I asked Wilson how his bowling compares to his pitching, and he told me if Wii Bowling is any indication, he?s terrible. ?I was playing a five year old...and he killed me.? He can just blame it on the fact he?ll be bowling lefty to preserve his pitching arm.

At any rate, he?s pretty excited about Lucky Strike, and I think Giants fans will be as well. ?It?s going to be a mecca for Giants fans.?

The ads are coming! The ads are coming!

According to a post on the official Twitter blog, the social network's official mobile apps are about to get flooded with ads???ahem, I mean "promoted tweets."

Promoted tweets have appeared on the desktop version of the Twitter website as well as in mobile search results for quite some time, so most should be familiar with them already.?

What's changing is that promoted tweets will now start appearing in the official Twitter for iPhone and Twitter for Android apps:

Promoted tweets will appear in your timeline like any other tweet, and like regular tweets, they will appear in your timeline just once; as you scroll, the promoted tweet will flow with the rest of the tweets in your timeline.

Initially, you'll only see promoted tweets from companies or brands you already follow. If you feel that a promoted tweet isn't relevant to you, you can make it disappear "with a single swipe" (which will help Twitter provide better targeted ads, of course).
